Derating gas furnaces and boilers

Derating a furnace or any gas-fired equipment is necessary at higher elevations due to the decrease in oxygen levels in the air. Derating is when the HVAC installer adjusts the gas pressure to match the elevation. If it’s not set correctly, your furnace ends up overheating, Spring Creek Mechanical takes this in account and knows how to adjust equipment to run better for our altitude in Utah county. Reduction in oxygen availability affects combustion, leading to lower efficiency and output capacity. Proper adjustments considering our higher elevations can result in cleaner operation and increased efficiency. Because there is less strain on equipment the result is longer lifespan for the equipment and lower utility costs.
